ReForest London Neighbourhood Canvassing

Canvassers are volunteers that distribute promotional material for our programs across the city. Canvassers are primarily needed for our Tree Blitz program, to pre-canvas the targeted neighbourhood 1-2 weeks before the event.

This position provides valuable experience for Environmental Studies, Non-Profit Management, Public Relations and Communications students or anyone with a passion for trees or speaking to the public. All canvassers will receive a nifty ReForest London t-shirt, hat and button once they commit to two 2-hour canvassing events, usually held on weeknights from 6-8pm.

Responsibilities

Distribute promotional materials to targeted neighbourhoods or addresses
Canvass home owners in a specified area to offer them trees
Track addresses/area canvassed
Time Commitment

1-2 hours per shift during the Spring and Fall for Tree Blitzes
On an as needed basis during other seasons
Training
No training required. Instructions will be given at the beginning of each shift.

Advance Notice Delivery is an important part of the Neighbourhood ReLeaf Program. It focuses on distributing promotional material for our programs across the city. Advance notice distributors are primarily needed for our Tree Blitz program, to distribute advance notices to homeowner mailboxes before the event.

Responsibilities

  • Distribute promotional materials to targeted neighbourhoods or addresses

Forest Festival

ReForest London is excited to invite you to our first ever Forest Festival in Harris Park on Saturday, August 19th! From 11 am to 3 pm, this family-oriented event is all about celebrating trees, forests, and our identity as the Forest City! A BBQ picnic from Growing Chefs will be offered by donation to the first 500 attendees, where every dish includes an ingredient grown from a tree!

We are partnering with local organizations to provide a fun-filled day of interactive activities for all ages.

Activities include:

·         A massive free tree giveaway

·         A bird show by the Canadian Raptor Conservancy

·         The Hood Archery

·         A giant interactive art piece from the London Arts Council that will be filmed by a drone!

·         A fire truck

·         Educational tree hikes

·         Local businesses, artisans and musicians

·         Environmental organizations

This is sure to be a huge and exciting event, so mark your calendars! It will be a tree-rrific time for all!

Reforest London: Forest Hike Series

Killally Meadows (ESA)
868 Windermere Road

Theme: The future of our forests: invasive species, climate change, and ongoing conservation efforts in our area

Hike Leader: Victoria Kacer, ReForest London
Co-Leader: Thames Valley Trail Association

Length: 1.5 hours, 2.70 km
Pace: Moderate
Type: Loop
Terrain: Very easy. Well-defined trails. Mostly flat terrain. Hiking boots not required, but trails may be wet.

Meeting Location: You can find us at the end of Windermere Rd. by the parking lot (868 Windermere Rd) 30 minutes before the hike start time. We will be leaving the office at the advertised hike start time.

Accessibility: There is a marked trail, it can be uneven and muddy in places. Closed-toe shoes or boots are strongly recommended. Dress for the weather conditions.

Our hike will also explore the common and most threatening invasive species in our forests, forest succession and ongoing conservation efforts in our area and in our ESAs. Hope to see you there!

Meadowlily Woods (ESA)

Theme: 
The history of Ontario’s forests and how they’ve changed over time

Hike Leader: Victoria Kacer, ReForest London

Length: 1.5 hours, 3.23 km
Pace: Moderate
Type: Loop
Terrain: Easy hike. Well-defined trails. Some hills. some rough spots or obstacles. Hiking Boots are recommended.

Meeting Location: You can find us at the entrance to Meadowlily Woods ESA (34 Meadowlily Rd. S.) 30 minutes before the hike start time. We will be leaving the office at the advertised hike start time.

Our hike will also explore the history of Ontario and London’s forests and how they have changed over time. We will also explore some geomorphology of the Meadowlily Woods ESA. Hope to see you there!
